At Mays High School, learning isn’t just about getting good grades. It’s about doing your best, learning new things, and getting help when you need it. Everyone struggles with something in school sometimes, and that’s okay. The good thing is, Mays has lots of ways to help students do better. Tutoring, study groups, and teachers who care all make a big difference.

When I first started working with a tutor, I didn’t really know what to expect. I thought people would think I wasn’t smart or that I was behind. But that’s not true at all. My tutor made me feel comfortable and helped me understand things step by step. Sometimes I just needed someone to explain it in a different way. After a few weeks, I started to understand my work more and feel more confident in class.

One of the biggest things tutoring taught me was not to give up. Before, I used to get frustrated when I didn’t understand something. Now, I try again and ask questions. My grades got better, but what really changed was how I felt about learning. I started to enjoy it more and realized that asking for help is a smart thing to do.

Other students at Mays feel the same way. Some of my friends go to tutoring after school or meet up in study groups. They say it helps to have people to talk to and work with. One friend told me, “It’s easier when you’re not alone. We help each other out.” When you study with others, it’s less stressful and even kind of fun.

The teachers at Mays really care, too. Many of them stay after school to help students or give extra practice. They make sure we understand instead of just memorizing things. They always tell us that it’s okay to ask questions and that learning takes time. It’s nice knowing there’s always someone who wants to help you succeed.

Getting help doesn’t mean you’re not smart, it means you want to do better. Everyone needs help sometimes, and that’s part of learning. Tutoring and study groups can make a big difference, not just in your grades but in how you feel about school.

If you’re a student at Mays and you’re not sure about getting a tutor, I’d say go for it. You might be surprised by how much it helps. At Mays High School, learning isn’t something you do alone, it's something we do together and be successful at doing it.
